Indian banks compound FDs quarterly by default. Compounding more often raises the effective yield slightly — 4 times a year here.

Growth

How you take the interest

Cumulative leaves the interest in to compound. The payout options hand it to you as it accrues — useful for income, but nothing is left in the deposit to grow.

Quarterly and monthly payouts earn the same total interest — both are simple interest at the same rate, just paid on a different schedule. Only the cumulative option compounds.

What this calculation assumes
  • Interest compounds at the frequency you select. Indian banks use quarterly compounding by default.
  • The rate is fixed for the full tenure and the deposit is held to maturity.
  • Premature withdrawal penalties are not modelled.
  • TDS and income tax on interest are not deducted — FD interest is taxable at your slab rate, which can materially reduce the real return.
  • Senior citizen rate premiums are not applied automatically.
Illustrative only. These figures assume constant rates and do not predict actual returns. Markets, taxes and inflation vary. This is educational information, not financial advice — consult a SEBI-registered adviser before making investment decisions.
