Why XIRR and not the simple percentage
Your absolute return is 12.5% — but that treats the instalment you paid last month the same as the one from 6y 8m ago. XIRR accounts for when each rupee actually went in, which is why it is the number fund houses quote and the only one worth comparing across investments.

What this calculation assumes
- •XIRR is solved by bisection over the actual dated cash flows, so it accounts for when each instalment went in.
- •Instalments are assumed to be on the same day each month with none missed.
- •The current value is treated as a redemption today — no exit load or capital gains tax is deducted.
- •A blank result means no return can be derived from the figures given, usually because the dates or values are inconsistent.
Illustrative only. These figures assume constant rates and do not predict actual returns. Markets, taxes and inflation vary. This is educational information, not financial advice — consult a SEBI-registered adviser before making investment decisions.
