Why education costs so much more. Each goal inflates at its own rate, not at headline CPI. Education has run at roughly 10% a year in India and healthcare similarly — planning a college fund at 6% is the most common way Indian families end up short by a factor of two.
What this calculation assumes
- •Each goal inflates at its own rate. Education and medical default to 10%, which is far above headline CPI for good reason.
- •The cost you enter is in today’s money and is inflated to the year the money is needed.
- •Money already set aside for a goal is grown forward and netted off the requirement.
- •When the surplus cannot cover everything, goals are funded in priority order and then by how soon they fall due.
- •Each goal is funded independently — no goal borrows from another’s corpus.
